Residential Asphalt Sealcoating

Protect your asphalt driveway from deterioration with a quality asphalt sealant. Regular sealcoating and maintenance is the key to keeping an attractive looking and structurally sound driveway. It’s also a cost efficient way for homeowners to avoid costly and unnecessary repairs due to pavement failures. Professional driveway sealing is not just for beautification, when done regularly (about every 2-3 years) sealing can more than double the life of your blacktop.

May Sealing Driveway Sealcoating Details

  1. TRIMMING GRASS AWAY FROM EDGES OF DRIVEWAY: May Sealing will remove any grass which has grown over the edges of the driveway. This will allow us to coat these normally concealed areas in order to protect them from deterioration.
  2. THOROUGH CLEANING OF YOUR DRIVEWAY: May Sealing will use a combination of steel wire brooms and a walk behind 8 horsepower blower which is capable of generating wind speeds in excess of 200 MPH. The steel wire brooms are used first to loosen up any areas of dirt caked on the asphalt. The blower is then turned on and effectively removes any debris from the driveway surface.
  3. APPLICATION OF HOT POUR RUBBERIZED CRACKFILLER: The 8 horsepower blower is used in conjunction with the steel wire brooms to first clear the crack of loose debris and vegetation. A machine, which serves as both melter and applicator, then heats solid blocks of crack filler into liquid form at 400 degrees F. The machine is then run over the cracks on the driveway's surface, filling each crack with a 4-inch band of liquid crack filler that solidifies within seconds. Crack filling is available where requested and is not used on driveways where few or no cracks have formed.
  4. TREATMENT OF OIL AND GASOLINE SPOTS: Due to the porous nature of asphalt it is extremely difficult to remove oil, grease, or gasoline stains from the surface of the asphalt. May Sealing uses a primer specifically designed for these spots which allows for better adhesion of the soon-to-be applied driveway sealer to these areas.
  5. A THICK COAT OF COAL TAR SEALER: After the driveway has been fully prepped sealcoat will be poured directly on the driveway surface and spread around the driveway using squeegees and/or brooms. We will begin at the top of the driveway and work side to side, working the sealer in to the asphalt by hand. For 2-coat jobs we will leave your driveway and typically come back a few hours later for a second coat.
  6. BLOCKADE THE ENTRANCE TO YOUR DRIVEWAY: Fluorescent tape is then placed across the front of the driveway, preventing traffic from entering your driveway. This tape may be removed and automobiles may drive on your driveway after a 48-hour period.
